The hotel is over 300 years old, and is in a unique manor house situated in a central, yet quiet location in the heart of Recklinghausen’s historic city center. There are different theories as to the origin of its name. Local people probably gave the castle-like building the name of “Engelsburg,” (Castle of the Holy Angel – Castel Sant’ Angelo) after the Roman original, because it was located in “Im Rom”, a street in Recklinghausen (German for “in Rome”).
Recklinghausen is located in the southern Münsterland region, and is known for its charming, well-preserved historic city center. Nestled between Art Nouveau half-timbered houses, you can enjoy rich cultural activities of all kinds, from the famous Ruhrfestspiele to different exhibitions at the city’s museums.
